PANJIM: Goan girls continued their winning run and kept their medal hopes alive after the ninth round of the 31st U-13 National Open and Girls Championship, Jalhander, Punjab, on Tuesday.
Back-to-back wins for Tanvi Hadkonkar in the eight and ninth round took her points tally to 6.5. Tanvi played like a maestro in both rounds as she brushed her way past Delhi’s Shivika Rohilla before she beat Andra Pradesh’s Sathwika in the ninth round.
After suffering a surprise defeat against Madhya Pradesh’s Jain Nityata, Gunjal came back strongly in the ninth round defeating Assam’s Tanisha A R Som to take her points tally to 6.
In the boys’ section, after a dismal start in the opening rounds, Ishan Pagi won the last two rounds defeating Utkrisht Tuli of Punjab and Tamil Nadu’s Herald KA. Ishan now is on 4.5 points, a point behind Om Barde, who suffered defeats in the eight and ninth rounds. Ayush is rooted on 3.5.
