Govt Polytechnic, Curchorem win girls chess tournament

CURCHOREM: Government Polytechnic, Curchorem, emerged as winner in the girls chess tournament by defeating Institute of Shipbuilding Technology, Vasco. In the boy’s category Agnel Institute of Food Craft and Culinary Science, Verna clinched the title by defeating Agnel Polytechnic, Verna.

Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (GAIHMCT), Curchorem, hosted the All-Goa Inter-Diploma Carrom and Chess tournament organised by Inter Diploma Sports (IDS) under the guidance of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) at Guardian Angel Institute premises on Saturday. Total seven diploma institutions participated in the tournament.  

The carrom tournament organized in association with Goa Carrom Association, in the girl’s category, Institute of Shipbuilding Technology (IST), Vasco won the championship by defeating Government Polytechnic, Curchorem, while in boy’s category Government Polytechnic, Panjim defeated Fr Agnel Polytechnic, Verna.  Sanjay Kavlekar was the chess arbiter and Resham Khan, Pratiksha Gaikwad and Vaishnavi Rivankar represented Government Polytechnic, Curchorem while Suhani Jaiwal, Shraddha Salelkar and Sanjana Kotharkar for Institute of Shipbuilding, Vasco, in girls category.

In boys category Agnel Institute of Food Craft and Culinary Science, Verna, was represented by Emmanuel D Lima, Awesh Waglekar and Brandon Gonsalves while Ameya Naik, Rishab Bandekar and Sairaj Talavanekar for Agnel Polytechnic, Verna. The girls carrom team of IST, Vasco was represented by Siya Kubal, Prashma Kambli, Radha Madkar and Swena Ghatwal and the Government Polytechnic represented by Annapurna Hundri, Muskan Mulla, Nifah Xex and Tasneem Shaikh. The boys team consisted of Atharv Naik, Vishwanath Vaghmode, Raunak Karande, Utkarsh Virnodkar and Naeem Donus played for Government Polytechnic, Panjim and Yash Naik, Fletcher Barreto, Mohit Naik, Alwin Gama and Sunny Sharma for Agnel Polytechnic, Verna.
