India Appoints New Vice-Captain for West Indies Tests, Karun Nair Omitted

Herald Team

India will face the West Indies in a two-Test series starting October 2, with Shubman Gill resuming as captain. The biggest change in the squad is the appointment of Ravindra Jadeja as vice-captain after Rishabh Pant missed out due to a foot injury sustained during the England tour.

Veteran Karun Nair and opener Abhimanyu Easwaran were dropped, while Devdutt Padikkal returns after impressive performances in the Duleep Trophy and India A vs Australia A unofficial Tests. Fast bowler Akash Deep was not selected despite his strong showing in Edgbaston, with the pace attack relying on Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna.

Selectors retained Sai Sudharsan at No.3, indicating long-term plans, while Dhruv Jurel replaces Pant as the first-choice wicketkeeper.
