RAIA: Betalbatim SC downed Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, 2-0 to storminto the quarter-finals of 52nd Custodio memorial football tournament played at the Raia panchayat ground, on Saturday.
Francis Andrade played a leading role for Don Bosco Oratory, while Klusner Pereira stood out for Betalbatim SC. The match drew huge spectators despite heavy rain showers.
In an early chance, Alfred Noronha of Don Bosco Oratory missed a scoring opportunity in the 6th minute. Minutes later, Aniston Fernandes of Betalbatim SC came close but sent the ball just wide.
Betalbatim SC opened the scoring in the 31st minute through a fine diagonal strike by Klusner Pereira. Klusner doubled the lead with a crafty move in the 40th minute, making it 2-0 at the halftime.
In the second half, Betalbatim SC focused on solidifying their defence, receiving additional cover from the midfield to contain the attacking threats of Don Bosco Oratory.
A powerful long-range effort from Nayab Khan of Betalbatim SC narrowly missed the target, adding to the tense moments in the game. Then a power-packed shot of Francis Andrade of Don Bosco Oratory was pushed away to safety by Betalbatim SC goalkeeper.
