Majorda win Archbishop’s Youth Trophy

NAGOA: The youth from Majorda Parish emerged champions of the All Goa Archbishop’s Youth Trophy organised by the Diocesan Youth Centre in collaboration with the John Paul Foundation For Sports and was held at the panchayat ground, at Nagoa-Verna, on recently.
 The Majorda Parish Youth emerged champions with a well-deserved win over Parra Parish Youth in the final which ended in a 1-1 deadlock. The Majorda Parish emerged winners in the penalty shootout with a score line of 6-5. Earlier in the day, Parra parish youth knocked out Assolna parish youth to set up in the final clash against Majorda Parish Youth who had earlier defeated Bhatpal Parish Youth.
 All together teams from 14 deaneries had qualified for the tournament which was played in a league format and was aimed at building a spirit of fellowship and love through the medium of sports.
 Aaron Martins from Parra parish was awarded the best goalkeeper, while Josley Dias was the top scorer and Navin Mendes was adjudged as the player-of-the-tournament.
 In the 5-a-side tie-breaker competition held during the event, girls from Moira were the well-deserved winners while Colva Parish Youth girls bagged the runners up trophy.
 The Guest at the event was Fr Aldrin D’costa and Fr Xavier Estibeiro who gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up of both the events.
