The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled out any urgent hearing of a plea demanding cancellation of the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup clash set for September 14 in Dubai. Filed by law student Urvashi Jain and three peers, the petition was dismissed by Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi, who stressed, “The match must go on.”
The petitioners’ lawyer pleaded with the bench to list the matter for Friday, given the match was only days away. However, the court remained unmoved, responding with a firm “No, nothing.”
According to the PIL, holding a cricket match with Pakistan soon after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor would send the wrong signal to the public and dishonour the memory of those who lost their lives. The petition further called for immediate implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, insisting that national interests must outweigh sporting ties.
