MAPUSA: Nerul Sports Club advanced to the final of the Assonora United Super Soccer Cup after edging out Dunes Sports Club Mandrem 7–6 via sudden death at the Assonora Sports Complex.
Both sides displayed spirited attacking football, trading attacks and counterattacks throughout the match. However, despite several opportunities, neither team could break the deadlock during regulation time.
With the scoreline unchanged after the initial tie-breaker, the match moved into sudden death. It was here that Nerul Sports Club held their nerve, with Aniket, Akash, Aman, Nehal, Navneet, Anand and Mathew converting their chances.
For Dunes SC, Leslie, Arun, Anant, Sanford, Anthony and Kritikesh found the net in the shootout, but it wasn’t enough to carry them through.
Dev Sangelkar, substitute goalkeeper for Nerul Sports Club, was named man-of-thematch for his outstanding performance under the bar, proving crucial to Nerul’s victory.
