MAPUSA: Nuvem Veterans sealed their place in the finals of the 1st All Goa Veterans Late Babli Govekar tournament with a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Siolim Veterans at the Tembi ground, Anjuna, on Wednesday. The tournament is organised by Anjuna Veterans.
The opening session saw both teams on almost equal footing. On resumption, however, Nuvem drew first blood in the 40th minute when Jerose Oliveira, latching on to a square pass from Marcus Carvalho, unleashed a thunderous shot that crashed into the far corner, leaving the Siolim Veterans goalkeeper beaten.
At the other end, Siolim came close to levelling through Rajesh Pomburphekar, but his powerful left-footer was tipped away for a corner by Nuvem custodian Camilo Baretto.
Nuvem doubled their advantage soon after, with Agnelo Colaco calmly finishing off a fine assist from Jerose Oliveira to make it 2-0 and seal victory.
Jerose Oliveira received the man-of-the-match award from Anthony Fernandes, president of Lions club of Assagao in the presence of Francis Fernandes President of FC Siolim.
