PANJIM: Peddem A was the lone Goan team to break into the knockout stage, giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about in the ongoing Multi-State Masters Table Tennis Team Championship organised by Panjim Morning Stars Sports Club at the Indoor Stadium, Campal-Panjim, on Sunday.
The spirited team - comprising Jesus Bonny, Shawn Soares, Anthony Mendes, Ratnadeep Shivani and Joseph Sequeira - finished second in Group D behind group leaders Spinmoon 5 (Maharashtra) securing a well-deserved spot in the knockout stage.
They now face a tough challenge in the quarter-final against the formidable Toss Academy (Maharashtra), who topped Group A with dominant performances.
Joining Peddem A in the quarterfinals are group toppers - Toss Academy (Maharashtra), M P Lions (Madhya Pradesh), Accolades (Karnataka) and Spinmoon 5 (Maharashtra) along with second-placed teams Sanmitra (Pune), Guru Academy (Maharashtra) and Karnataka Spinners.
The knockout matchups promise high-voltage action, with M P Lions taking on Sanmitra (Pune), Accolades (Karnataka) facing Guru Academy (Maharashtra), and Spinmoon 5 clashing with Karnataka Spinners.
The veterans’ championship has seen top-ranked players across four States competing in the 39+, 49+, and 59+ categories, blending high-level table tennis with a spirit of camaraderie and sporting fellowship.
