Perpetual Succour Convent HS, Mae Dos Pobres HS, Fr Agnel HS in last four

VERNA: Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim, put up a spirited fightback to beat Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna, 4-3 via tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of 2nd All Goa U-17 inter-school football tournament organised by the Verna Sports Club at Verna Church ground, on Tuesday.

Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS started the match on an attacking note and opened the scoring through hard-working striker Alex Fernandes with a powerful strike.

At half time, the score was 1-0. Perpetual Succour Convent High School came in the second half very strongly and scored the equiliser in the dying minute of the match through Spleren Moura, thus taking the match into tie-breaker where Perpetual Succour Convent High School were the better shooters.

In the second match, Mae Dos Pobres High School beat Infant Jesus High School, Colva, 2-0, to move into the semi-final.

Mae Dos Pobres HS were leading by a goal in the first half through the efforts of Rahul Sherpali. Infant Jesus High School tried hard to make a comeback in the match but their strikers missed some easy goal scoring chances. Amchris Pereira scored the second goal on a fast counter attack thus taking his team into last four.

In the third match, Fr Agnel High School, Pilar, beat Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda, 4-2, via tie-breaker to enter into the semi-finals.

Our Lady of Rosary HS should have scored in the first half through a penalty but their striker shoot wide.

In the second half, both teams tried to break the deadlock but their forwards could not convert the chances that came their way thus taking the match into tie-breaker where Fr Agnel HS held their nerve to qualify.
