MANGESHI: Presentation Convent High School, Margao, secured 13 points to emerge champions in the VJ Shirolkar-D R Wagle All Goa Wagle High School Hirak Mahotsav School Chess Championship organised by the Ponda Taluka Chess Association (PTCA) at the Wagle High School premises, here, recently.
Shree Shantadurga High School secured the second place, while Navy Children School, Dabolim, finished third. Vidhya Vihar High School, Cortalim; Mushtifund High School, Cujira; BVB's Narayan Bandekar School; Sharada Mandir School, Miramar; Dr K B Hedgewar School, Curti-Bambolim; Bhatikar Model High School, Margao; Mahila and Nutan English High School, Margao; Vidhya Vruddhi School, Ponda and Shri Nirakar Vidyalaya, Mashem, secured fourth to 12th place respectively.
The top three Ponda taluka schools were GVM’s Almeida High School, GVM's Utkarsh Vidyamandir and GVM’s RPRS High School.
Board prizes: Board 1: Mayank Kurtikar, Shriya Patil, Vihaan Tari.
Board 2: Rachel Pereira, Abhir Prabhu, Atharva Naik. Board 3: Avnish Borker, Nishesh Gaude, Erwin Albuquerque, Board 4: Satyam Phal, Kartik Sapate, Sidh Rane.
Chief guest Goa Chess Association Secretary Ashesh Keni distributed the trophies to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Mangirish Vidyadini Saunstha Chairman Arun Desai, PTCA President Sagar Sakordekar,
PTCA Secretary Amogh Namshiker, Chief Arbiter Arvind Mhamal, Mangirish Vidyadini Saunstha Vice-President Avdhut Kamat, Wagle High School Headmistress Mitasha Aigal and Teacher Bhagwan Gaude. Sudhakar Patgar, Anish Naik, Pankaj Chavan and Milind Gaude were Assistant Arbiters.
PTCA Treasurer Sandesh Naik, members Anirudh Borkar, Mahesh Khedekar, Wagle High School teachers Dilip Behare, Sandip Pagi, Amogh Budkule, Jayashri Savaikar, Nevely Cabral, Pranavi Naik, Ranjita Naik and Amita Kansekar took active part in conducting the tournament.
Altogether, 53 schools participated in the tournament with four players from each school.
