RAIA: In an electrifying encounter in the Anil Kamat memorial football tournament organised by Enfermos Sports Club, Parish Youth Nuvem edged past Dramapur Sports Club with a hard-fought 2-1 victory to move into the next round in the match played at Chinchinim ground, on Thursday.
Dramapur SC started on the front foot, pushing the tempo early. Just three minutes in, Carson Rebello’s fierce strike forced a superb save from the Parish Youth Nuvem goalkeeper. The pressure continued, with Nigel Fernandes narrowly missing a golden chance in the 8th minute.
Parish Youth Nuvem quickly turned up the heat. In the 10th minute, Albino Pereira launched a powerful shot that was denied by the Dramapur SC keeper. Dramapur SC’s Chadel Fernandes also came close with a header but couldn't find the net.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 20th minute when Shario Gomes fired a sensational long-range goal from 20 yards, giving Dramapur SC a deserved lead. However, their advantage was short-lived as Jonas Colaco equalised for Parish Youth Nuvem in the 26th minute with a cool finish, sending both teams into halftime level at 1-1.
After the break, Parish Youth Nuvem turned up the pressure. In the 49th minute, Albino Pereira made up for his earlier miss by netting the second goal for his side, putting them ahead 2-1.
Dramapur SC had a chance to draw level with a penalty, but the opportunity was squandered. Despite a flurry of late attacks, including a free-kick from Shario Gomes and several close attempts, they couldn’t find the equaliser.
