Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has called time on his IPL career, ending a journey that spanned 16 years. The 38-year-old, who last turned out for Chennai Super Kings in 2025, had already stepped away from international cricket at the close of 2024. His announcement comes amid rumors of a Rajasthan Royals return, making the decision a shock for fans and franchises alike.

Ashwin revealed on social media that while his IPL days are over, he will continue to play in overseas competitions. Thanking BCCI and the franchises, he said every ending brings a new beginning, and his focus now shifts to “exploring leagues across the world.”

Over the years, Ashwin established himself as one of IPL’s finest bowlers. He claimed 187 wickets in 221 games at an economy of 7.20 and contributed 833 runs with the bat, including a fifty. His decision complies with BCCI rules, which mandate retirement from both IPL and international cricket before Indians can feature in foreign leagues.
