Regina Mundi, Loyola storm into semi-final

St Ann’s Agonda, Fatima Convent shine in girls’ section

RAIA: Hosts Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim and Loyola High School, Margao, sealed their places in the semi-finals from Group B of the 27th Bro DO Slattery Memorial inter-school football tournament for boys and girls U-13, organised by Regina Mundi HS, Chicalim.

In the boys’ group matches, Regina Martyrum HS, Assolna thrashed Our Lady of Lourdes HS, Utorda, 6-0, with goals from Flavion Cardozo, Anson Fernandes, Vailan P Fernandes, Savion Fernandes (2) and Vailan Fernandes. Ajay Kharya took the player of the match award. Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal edged Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim 1-0 through a strike by Kishan Singh, with Utkarsh UChitari named best player.

In the girls’ fixtures, St Ann’s Institute, Agonda brushed aside St Jude HS, Betalbatim 4-0, with Uriel Fernandes and a hat-trick from Vardhana M Velip. Alisha Indwar was adjudged player of the match. Fatima Convent HS, Margao overcame Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vasco 2-0, with both goals from Rishona C Gomes; Rutu Munda bagged the award.

Later, Regina Mundi HS defeated St Ann’s Agonda with a classy goal from Presley Vaz, while Schmelzer Fernandes was player of the match. Loyola HS beat St Jude HS, Betalbatim 1-0 via Aidan Carvalho’s effort, with Sudeep Kullu taking the honours.

In the quarter-finals, Regina Mundi ousted Regina Martyrum HS, Assolna on penalties, with Syden E Tavares as standout. Loyola edged Bethany Convent HS, Sao Jose de Areal, also via penalties, with Ansh Jaiswal named best player.

In the girls’ Group B semi-final, St Ann’s Agonda advanced after defeating Fatima Convent HS, with Jaezel M Barreto earning the player of the match award.
