Sangolda Lightning triumph

Register solitary goal to lift the title; Shubham and Amar adjudged best midfielder and defender; Best goalkeeper award bagged by Nandadeep Narvekar of Xetrapal Sports Club

CALANGUTE: Sangolda Lightning scored a hard fought solitary goal over Xetrapal Sports Club to win the final of Lakhanpal Cup all-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Wednesday.
Both teams began the match on a cautious note and created a couple of goal scoring opportunities but their forwards failed to score.
Sach put Sangolda ahead just before the lemon break. Changing over and trailing by a goal, Xetrapal almost drew level in the 35th minute but their forwards failed to make the best of the goal scoring opportunities.
Sangolda also had a couple of opportunities to settle the scores but their forwards were off target.
Fr Brian Pinto, parish priest of St Lawrence church, Sinquerim was the chief guest and gave away the trophy to the winners in the presence of Lavinio Rebello (GFA Vice-President North), Rajendra Tiwari (Lakhanpal), Ramkrishna Kerkar, Patrick D’Souza (GFA Executive Member) and other dignitaries.
Following individual prizes were awarded to best midfielder Shubam Dessai (Sangolda), best goalkeeper Nandadeep Narvekar (Xetrapal), best player Amar Harlankar (Sangolda).
Earlier, the teams and match officials were introduced to the chief guest and other dignitaries by the club president Lourenco Fernandes and treasurer Patrick Gonsalves.  Bruno de Souza compered. He later proposed the vote of thanks.
