India and Pakistan relations are becoming increasingly bitter. Following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists and left more than 20 injured, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly made a strong public appeal for India to boycott all cricket matches against Pakistan. Ganguly’s statement is currently resonating with the nation, reflecting the widespread anger and grief felt by the Indian public in the aftermath of the attack, which India has attributed to terrorist groups operating from Pakistan. Ganguly also requested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the government take a clear stand by suspending all bilateral cricketing ties with Pakistan until peace and security in the region are restored.
It is no secret that due to the strained political relations between India and Pakistan, India has not toured Pakistan since 2008, when they took part in the Asia Cup. The two countries last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 in India. During the latest ICC Champions Trophy, India declined to play in Pakistan and instead participated under a hybrid model, with matches moved to Dubai.
