RAIA: St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda, delivered a commanding 2-0 victory over Navelim Villagers Union to book their place in the final of 19th Super Soccer inter-village football tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at the St John de Baptista ground, on Thursday.
A crowd of over 1,500 football enthusiasts witnessed the thrilling semi-final clash on Thursday, where Mark Revlon Fernandes emerged as the standout performer for St Anthony’s SC, while Rovan Pereira gave a spirited display for Navelim Villagers Union despite the loss.
St Anthony’s SC weathered the early pressure and capitalised brilliantly in the 20th minute when Sunny Fernandes soared above the defence to head home a beautifully delivered curling free-kick by Marck Revlon, stunning the Navelim Villagers Union side.
The momentum shifted further in Navelim Villagers Union’s favour just seven minutes later. This time, it was Sildom Peixote who slotted in a precise low cross from Sunny Fernandes, giving St Anthony’s SC a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
Despite dominating possession in the second half and showing more urgency through midfielders Richard Fernandes and Mark Revlon, Navelim Villagers Union’s were unable to penetrate St Anthony’s SC disciplined defence.
