RAIA: In a quarter-final match of the 3rd Fr Bruno Leitao memorial inter-village football tournament, Union of Chinchinim Villagers moved past Ambelim SC 2-1 to secure a spot in the semi-finals at the at Chinchinim Church ground, on Thursday.
The game began cautiously, with both teams having chances to score. In the 21st minute, a shot from Ambelim SC was saved by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Ambelim SC’s goalkeeper Benny made a crucial one-on-one save to keep the score level. Union of Chinchinim Villagers eventually broke the deadlock in the 28th minute with a penalty converted by Sherio Gomes, giving them a 1-0 lead at half time.
Sherio Gomes struck again for Union of Chinchinim Villagers just three minutes into the second half, extending their lead to 2-0. Ambelim SC managed to pull a goal back in the 10th minute of the second half when a Union of Chinchinim Villagers defender accidentally scored an own goal, making it 2-1. Despite their best efforts, Ambelim SC could not find an equaliser.
