RAIA: United Club Verna booked their place in the semi-finals of the 44th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy, organised by Navelim Sporting Club, with a 2-0 victory over Sporting Club Davorlim at the Rosary Church ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.

Verna struck early, as Johann Abranches’ fourth-minute strike beat Davorlim goalkeeper Francisco Colaco. William Niasso came close soon after, but his effort from a Peter Colaco pass missed by a whisker. Sheldon Fernandes doubled the lead in the 24th minute to send Verna 2-0 up at half-time.

Both sides squandered chances after the break. Verna failed to extend their advantage, while Davorlim struggled to pull one back. In the final quarter, Verna were awarded a penalty, but Francisco Colaco made a fine save to deny them a third.

UC Verna goalkeeper Myron Fernandes was named man-of-the-match, the award presented by former Sesa player Minguel Rodrigues.
