RAIA: Sao Jose de Areal SC defeated CRC Chinchinim 3-2 to move into the quarter-finals of Mansion House Football Cup organised by Cuncolim Union at the government school playground, Cuncolim, on Monday.
Early on, Sao Jose de Areal SC’s Jeston Fernandes tested the CRC Chinchinim goalkeeper with a power-packed shot in the 3rd minute, while CRC Chinchinim’s Joshua Correia saw his move foiled by the Sao Jose de Areal SC defence in the 10th minute.
CRC Chinchinim drew first blood in the 22nd minute when Piedade Rebello scored with a fine placement shot. Sao Jose de Areal SC equalised in the 46th minute through Bersel Viegas.
The second half saw end-to-end action. Serio Gomes restored CRC Chinchinim’s lead in the 47th minute, but just three minutes later, Daryl Costa levelled for Sao Jose de Areal. Daryl then struck again in the 52nd minute, completing his brace and sealing a 3-2 win for his team.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Vineet Bothra, Sales Head Goa, Mansion House, in the presence of Joseph Dias (VJT Arts), Oscar Martins (organising chairman), Sammy Tavares (cultural secretary), Cian Fernandes (treasurer), along with other dignitaries and club officials.
