PANJIM: The forthcoming festival season should witness an increase in the purchase of diamonds and other jewellery in the forthcoming festival season.  This sentiment was expressed by Naval Mundra a business associate of Tanishq who owns the 2000 sq feet showroom which is the largest outlet in the state.
Speaking to the Herald he said the state was a very good market and his store with its wonderful selection of diamonds had attracted customers from all over the state. He said, the store was the only outlet to keep 14 carat gold which no one else kept. His staff he said was motivated to ensure   the paying customer got what they were paying for. The store had a machine to check the carat in 40 seconds. This would be done for anyone who entertained doubts and more importantly it would be done in front of the person. Diamonds once purchased at the shop could be returned without fear in the buyback policy. Gold of any vintage will be replaced and the customer will be charged for refining it. All this will be done in front of the customer. Asked what was preferred in Goa, Naval Mundra revealed that diamonds were very popular in the state and the brand would be offering special deals for Dussareh and Diwai. Temple jewellery was also available. There were he said a lot of orders  coming in from South Goa which were customised and keeping this in mind he intended to open a store in Margao and Vasco next year.
The local precious jewellery market is fragmented with a large number of small goldsmiths. According to estimates provided jewellers the market is estimated at Rs.800 crore  and is expected to grow further given that Goans like the rest of the country love to buy and wear jewellery.
