One would have to be living under a rock to have not heard about Goa’s ‘star man,’ Anthony Rodrigues, who began his very own unique star making tradition years ago, and continues to honour it every year by making hundreds of stars that light up the street outside his home in Agassaim.
“I started making the stars in August this year and have lost count of how many stars I’ve made so far. Last year’s count was 800, and this year’s is surely more than that,” says Anthony, who has also introduced an added new element to this year’s Christmas display - a wooden boat.
“Aside from the stars, I’ve also built a boat this year. The boat will centre around the theme of Goa’s ‘Goencho Saib,’ St Francis Xavier, and will feature symbolic representations, including a scene from SFX’s life where a crab carries a cross and presents it to him.”
The inaugural will take place on December 22 at 7 pm and will be open to the public till January 7, 2025. “I extend a warm invitation for people to come see the boat this year. I have also invited the Archbishop, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, who has graciously accepted my invitation and has visited several times in the past few years.”
