Amaal Mallik Reacts to Uncle Anu Malik’s MeToo Controversy: 'There Must Be Some Truth'

Music composer Amaal Mallik has publicly clarified his stance regarding his uncle, veteran composer Anu Malik, especially after sexual harassment allegations surfaced against Anu during the MeToo movement in India. In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal addressed the controversy, his reasons for remaining silent at the time, and the current state of their relationship.

No Personal Bond with Anu Malik

Amaal Mallik emphasized that he does not share a personal bond with Anu Malik, stating, “I didn’t talk or support Anu Malik when he was accused during the MeToo movement. It was not my concern because I don’t consider him my family. I was very embarrassed when he was accused of these things. We never had a relationship.” He further reflected on the multiple allegations, saying, “If so many people raised their voice against him, I believe there must be some truth to it. There is no smoke without fire. Five people can’t talk against the same person.”

On the MeToo Movement and Family Concerns

Amaal revealed that his father, Daboo Malik, once expressed concern about whether similar accusations could be made against him. Amaal responded confidently, “There is no chance. I can never be the person who will ask for physical favours in return of songs. All the girls who worked with me have felt safe.” This statement underscores his commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful work environment for his collaborators.

Professional Rivalry and Family Dynamics

Despite their family ties, Amaal maintains a respectful distance from Anu Malik. He explained, “I am respectful towards him when I see him in public. But after knowing his wrongdoings, I am not in good terms with him. I don’t have any relationship with his family. I haven’t met them in years. I don’t attend parties. They were invited for Armaan’s wedding. They had come too. It is more like professional rivalry.”
