A mother is so precious to all, an invaluable gift from God, the most special person in everyone’s life. The bonding between a child and mother is described as the purest love created by God. A mother shields and holds her child for nine months in her womb and selflessly dedicates her whole life to her child. The happiness at the birth of her child when she hears the child’s first cries makes her complete.

On this day, as Mother’s Day is celebrated by the Church, mothers should be appreciated for their role in providing the comfort, support, and guidance in shaping the child’s life in countless ways. On September 8, the celebration of Mother’s Day worldwide is with special reverence to Mother Mary on her birthday. In the 16th century, this feast was known as the Monti Fest. The nativity of Mother Mary is commemorated as the Feast of Our Lady of Good Health, also known as Our Lady of Valankanni celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Chennai.

Marlete Viana from Old Goa is full of gratitude and admiration for her mother Iveta Viena, a true trailblazer, who embarked on her teaching career at a tender age of 16. Marlete followed in her footsteps, beginning her own teaching career at the age of 20. It was due to the inspiring and unwavering support of her mother who guided her towards this noble profession.

She says, “In her wisdom and grace, she has found her way, In her love, she choose forever to stay. Teaching is not just a job, but a legacy, a passion, a bond so true. My mother has been my mentor, my guiding star, in the field

of education as well as in her life. Happy Mother’s Day, and I pray for your good health.”

Carisio Azavedo aka Bongisio says, “MOM has a full form which I figured out as Mine Only Mine, she was mine and still is mine. I miss her everyday but I always remember her advice and education that she had given me through her sweet smile and honest ethics. Spend all the time you all have with your mother, because when she leaves you, you have no answers or guidance. Hence, the biggest gift of life is a mother’s love which nothing can replace.”

“My mother is my everything. I remember she would always say a magic phrase whenever I fell down or got hurt. She would say, ‘The little fairy will sprinkle pixie dust and make the pain go away’. I love her a lot,” says Mehvish Ali.

Alice Gonsalves says, “A mother is just like a diamond which is rare and just shines beautifully no matter what the situation is. She is pure by heart and loves me unconditionally.”

Siya Chodankar says, “A child is always close to his or her mother. Whenever we fall sick, get hurt, make a mistake, we always think of our mother. For me, she is like a shield that protects me from everything. Sometimes I do argue and may also not listen to her but in the end I know very well, I need my mom to be there. I just love her a lot.”

“A mother is a loving and caring parent who always puts her children first. She is our biggest cheerleader, celebrating our successes and comforting us in tough times. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful and loving mother in our lives. So let’s cherish and appreciate our mothers every day, for they are our greatest gift,” says Herman Noronha
