Dalgado Konknni Akademi is celebrating 80th birthday of renowned Poet and Tiatrist Cirilobab Fernandes. DKA has organized a special function to be held at the writers residence at Melant, Benaulim on July 7th. On this occasion a book of his latest poems ‘Maim Mhaka Gõy Zai’ will be released to honour him on this auspicious day.
Fr. Anthony Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim will be the Chief Guest for the function and Mr. Vincy Quadros, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi will preside.
Cirilo D. Fernandes was born in 1941 at Benaulim, Salcette. He completed his elementary education in Portuguese and thereafter completed his tenth. At the age of 12 he wrote his first poem stepping in to the world of literature. In his lifetime he has written short stories, Poetry, One Act plays, Tiatrs. ‘Obsoeg’, ‘Surokxa,’ ‘Dekhlem Mhunn Chaklem Nhoi’ are some of his short stories. ‘Imtto Bhattkar’, ‘Duddvank Lagon’, ‘Niraxi’, ‘Durdoxea’, ‘Dusreponni Kazar’, ‘Favo Tem Mevonam’ are some of his famous Tiatrs which were staged at many places. Cirilo is a good actor and has acted in his own tiatr as well as, for several professional tiatrist. Tiatr Academy of Goa has bestowed on him their prestigious ‘Life Time Achievement Award’. Department of Art and Culture has given him ‘Kala Gaurav Puroskar’ for his contribution for Tiatr.
He has also written many One Act Plays for which he has been awarded several prizes. ‘Goan Review Foundation’ and at Dalgado Konknni Akademi contest he has bagged the first places. ‘Jivit’ magazine has honoured him with ‘Kovita Sahitya Puroskar’ and ‘Konknni Bhasha Mondoll’ with their prestigious Literature Award of 2010-2011.
At present he has 8 books to his credit. 1) Soddear Vompil’li Jinn, 2) Mhojea Bannavle Ganvant, 3) Veson 4) Veson (Devnagri Lipiantor) 5) He Jinnent Kanttech Kantte, 6) Conductor Pirluk Mar, 7) Mhojea Bannavlechim Adlim Kazaram 8) Mhojea Bannavle Ganvant (Devnagri Lipiantor). The ninth book ‘Maim, Mhaka Gõy Zai’ will be released on his birthday.
He has taken part in several Poetry Conferences and presented his poems including Conference of Sahitya Akademiat Belgaum. In commemoration of Republic Day, Gomant Vidya Niketan, Moddganv has organised poetry recital of different languages where he presented his poems. His poems were heard in ‘Mehfils’ (public recitations), Okhil Bharot Konknni Lekhok Songhottna’, Mangalore, All India Radio, Panaji and Goa Doordharshan also.
