One of the most popular Catholic saints of the 20th century, St Pio of Pietrelcina, commonly known as Padre Pio, was a Capuchin Franciscan friar, priest, and mystic. The feast of Saint Pio was celebrated at Padre Pio Shrine, Moddi in Navelim. Fr Hermogenes Fernandes, parish priest of St Francis Xavier church, Keri in North Goa was the main celebrant for the Mass, besides other concelebrants. Padre Pio was canonized as a saint in Rome on June 16. Padre Pio belonged to the Capuchin congregation. Padre Pio had the stigmata and he used to celebrate the Eucharist with great fervour and devotion. His tomb is at San Giovanni in Italy. In Goa, his shrine is located at Moddi-Navelim.
