
The Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, United States, saw stars from film, music, and fashion bring on their best looks for what is known as ‘fashion’s biggest night out.’ This year, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, made his grand debut as he became the first-ever Indian male actor to attend the Met. He wore an outfit designed by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who also joined Khan on the blue carpet. He dazzled with the bling on his fingers wearing a black suit with gold accessories, a walking cane, a brooch and a long pendant bearing the letter K — for King Khan.
Another big name making his debut was son of Punjab, Diljit Dosanjh who had woven different elements of the state in his look. The Indian pop star and actor, paid tribute to his Punjabi heritage and was inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala with his look by ace designer Prabal Gurung. He walked in with a turban, kurta and tehmat. His cape also had Gurumukhi script, and the singer completed his outfit with a sword.
Bollywood actress Kiara Advani make her debut with a baby bump at the Met Gala. She glowed in a stunning black-gold-white ensemble with gold embellishments by Gaurav Gupta and a long white trail bore a heart-shaped mini plate for the baby. She was not the only celebrity with the baby bump as Rihanna, Karlie Kloss and Zinzi Coogler paid tribute to motherhood.
Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra also made his Met Gala debut. In keeping with this year’s theme, he wore an embellished sherwani-styled cape with structured shoulders over a vest and tie. The outfit had intricate embroidery at the back too that made it stand out.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas made her fifth appearance at the Met, wearing a polka dot suit dress by Olivier Rousteing of Balmain with jewellery from Bvlgari. She was accompanied by her husband and singer Nick Jonas, with whom she had made her Met gala debut in 2017.
Isha Ambani has attended the Met Gala several times and always ups her game. This year, Isha Ambani wore an Anamika Khanna creation with the corset, adorned with intricate geometric patterns. The ensemble took 20,000 hours of intricate embroidery, adorned with pearls, semi-precious stones, and heirloom gems.
Socialite Natasha Poonawalla was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania and Lakshmi Lehr with a corseted, sculptural silhouette that seamlessly blended the intricate heritage of Indian Gara embroidery with the bold structure of Western tailoring.
