Bonderam celebrations in Malar, Divar, trace back centuries, but it's the youth who are now steering this time-honoured tradition into a fresh direction. The 2024 edition saw vibrant participation from the younger generation, injecting new energy and ideas into the festivities, keeping in line with the century-old tradition.

The newly elected core committee at São Mathias Sports Club led by President Robin Crasto has been invigorated by its younger members. Remy de Almeida, Vice- President, highlighted the enthusiasm they brought. As Bonderam evolves, they introduced new concepts. This year’s celebrations kicked off in the morning with the Patoieachem Fest curated by Marius Fernandes and Dr Gwendolyn de Ornelas, who held a workshop of making patoieo. They launched GED Talks, inviting prominent figures like Rajendra Kerkar, who spoke about the Tiger Reserve.

Principal of the Agriculture College, Dr Suresh Kunkalikar, gave a talk on the significance of turmeric leaves followed by a lively performance by the local youth band - Malarchim Mottiam. The band’s leader, Lucius de Almeida, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform at Bonderachem Jevonn. During the Bonderanchi Passoi, an energetic and educational play by the Travelling Dome led by Tallulah D’Silva enlightened the audience about the importance of having a Tiger reserve.

The participation of students from Carmel College, led by their professor, Dr Glenis Mendonca. With a contingent of 60 students this year, Dr Glenis believes such festivals empower young people. The float parade also featured an energetic group of young participants who joined the seniors in delivering a stellar performance. Legendary Goan musician Seby Fernandes enthralled the crowd with Konkani classic and his old compositions. Armando Fernandes de Navelim, a unique poet presented a poem on Bonderam Festival.
