A famed face on Indian television, Ayesha Singh, who plays the role of Dr Sai Joshi in the show, ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’ was recently in Goa with 14 members of her family to enjoy a much deserved holiday after working continuously for two and a half years. She planned a four day vacation so that every member of the family could have a great time. “We explored different parts of Goa. I enjoyed water sports, parasailing, going on a dolphin sighting trip, visiting churches like the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Old Goa and even museums like the Fort Aguada Jail Museum. I also enjoyed an evening on the boat cruise on River Mandovi,” says Ayesha Singh.
She further says, “This is my first vacation after joining the show, the last holiday being just a day to visit Agra for Diwali. The production team was very accommodating and it was surprisingly dealt with well. We usually work for 12-14 hours every day without a break. I had to plan my leave well.”
Originally from Agra, Ayesha Singh, completed her law degree from SNDT Women’s University Law School, Mumbai and was a practising lawyer before switching her career and joining the television and film industry, the only member of her family to get into acting. She began her acting career in ‘Doli Armaano Ki’ in 2015 as Raati Sinha followed by the role of Amy D’Costa in ‘Zindagi Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Ghost’ in 2016 and the role of Reena in the film, ‘Adrishya’ in 2017 but her biggest break was when she joined
the cast of ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey
Pyaar Meiin.’
‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’ is an Indian Hindi-language television drama series on Star Plus. The show revolves around the three main characters, DCP Virat Chavan, Dr Sai Joshi and Patralekha. The show first aired on October 5, 2020 and has so far completed over 770 shows. Ayesha plays the role of Dr Sai Joshi Chavan, which is watched not only in India during the prime time slot but across the world. Sai is a woman who is a strong character, believes in honesty and is known for her practical and sensitive nature. The show aired when the country was facing lockdown and the audience immediately felt a connection with her character through the daily episodes.
“Portraying the role of Sai is a beautiful experience as the character goes through a lot of ups and downs and emotions like grief and happy moments. I love her brave soul and the essence of Sai to put up with any situation. The fans really connect with the role and they don’t spare a chance of expressing their love. No matter where I am travelling, I am immediately greeted with bright smiles and welcoming hugs, whether on an airport, on a cruise or even on a beach in Goa,” explains Ayesha.
How does she know she is receiving the love and appreciation from her viewers? She is showered with letters, emails and gifts from over the world especially the Gulf. “I receive these gifts with lots of love and care. The gifts include many things like photo frames with the photo of the scenes that the fans loved, or a handbag that a fan picked in Dubai and she loved it so much that she wanted to share the same bag with me, or a fancy belt, flowers and chocolates,”
says Ayesha.
She further adds, “I love wine sets and during the Christmas season, I received so beautiful wine sets. I am really grateful to my fans for following me through the show and appreciating my acting. These photo frames are actually testament of the trending scenes of the show.” Ayesha ranked sixth on the list of Urban Asian’s Top 30 Women of television.
Neil Bhatt plays the role of DCP Virat Chavan while Aishwarya Sharma plays the role of Patralekha ‘Pakhi’. In real life, Neil and Aishwarya met on the sets of the show itself when they fell in love and got engaged within three months of the show. They got married in 2021. Speaking about working with the couple, though in the show, DCP Virat Chavan is married to Sai, Ayesha says, “I am really happy for both of them and they also get to spend a lot of time on set together. They are usually occupied with their work depending on the scenes. The whole atmosphere on set is like a big family. I am comfortable with the cast and crew including the technicians and production team and we have all bonded as friends which makes working very easy.”
For her role, Ayesha is dressed beautifully in Indian wear, for which she says all credit goes to her stylist, Karishma and the creative director of the show, Siddhartha Vankar. “I definitely inform them if I am not comfortable with the clothes but otherwise I don’t interfere in the look. I don’t give any recommendations as they know what’s best for the character,” she adds.
Keeping up with daily shooting that begins at 8.30 am, Ayesha recently was seen in a music video, ‘Bidaai’ by singer Yashita Sharma with music by Parth Bharat Thakkar. “I am still celebrating the success of ‘Bidaai’. There are many songs that have approached me with the role but they are still in the process of finalisation. There are projects which keep coming but I am looking at those which are more interesting than Sai’s role,” concludes Ayesha.
