Life as we know it is not the same anymore. Its rhythms have
changed. There is a question mark that crosses everyone’s mind before an action
is initiated. The spur of the moment is but a thing of the past. All thanks to
the virus. It may have changed things but it has also inspired people to
creative heights. From painters who have done much more in the last four months
than they have ever managed in the previous year. Or writers who have been able
to read books they could not manage earlier. Three siblings in Goa wrote and
performed a song about the virus which has caught the attention of quite a few
people in the state.
Nicole, Rachael and Joshua Ferrao comprise a band called “The
Neonz”. Nicole 17 plays the lead guitar and vocalist, Joshua 15 is the drummer
and rapper and Rachael 13 is on the keyboard and vocals. Nicole is a class 12
student at Sharada Mandir School while Rachael and Joshua study in class 8 and
10 at Manovikas English medium school. They have been singing covers on their
Youtube channel but this virus gave them the opportunity to come up with their
first original composition.
As to how and why this song was recorded, Nicole said “
Due to the ongoing corona pandemic, we have been stuck at
home within the four walls of our house for months. This pandemic has totally
changed our world overnight. It was getting quite frustrating. Hence, the three
of us decided to address the situation in the best way we know, through our
music, which resulted in the creation of our first original song Got To Go Now.
I would like to point out that Dr Varun Carvello who has consistently
encouraged us to compose orginal songs ”.
The song was a collaborative affair. The three of them put
their thoughts and emotions into writing and composing the music and lyrics of
“Got to go now”. Rachael said “This song voices the issues and views that we
kids have had to endure in the last few months during this pandemic and also
the hope of getting back to our normal life. We hope to inspire other kids to
channel their energy into creating something beautiful during these difficult
times”.
The trio has composed original songs in the past but this is
the first time it is being put out to the public. Speaking about the response
to the song, Joshua said “
We were quite surprised and overwhelmed with the response we
got from all over the world with loads of comments on appreciating our song. As
of now we have 8000 views on YouTube.”
The three used the song to articulate their thoughts as to
how the virus could be controlled. Nicole said “ As our song says no
hugging,no handshakes, six feet away, just mask it up and say Namaste, I think
if we do these basics are followed we will surely fight and overcome this
pandemic”.
When asked what they missed the most, the three of them said
they missed going to school and mixing around with friends. Although they had
online classes nothing could make up for physically going to school. They
missed going out to the beach or for a movie.
Like many people they just missed the normal life they had at
the start of the year. One can only hope it becomes true very soon.
