BICHOLIM: Even though Sanquelim Municipal Council (SMC) elections are not fought on party lines, the Sanquelim Block Congress and a former MLA have expressed confidence of getting their panel elected.
Addressing a press conference under the banner ‘SMC Election Campaigning Congress Committee’, Congress Block President Digambar Naik stated that Congress party has fielded their candidates in all the 11 wards.
“We have fielded candidates in all the 11 wards and sure of their victory. We are not disclosing their names as it is kept secret,” stated Naik.
Asked about development projects in SMC area, member Anant Pissurlekar said development projects like Ravindra Bhavan, PHC, garbage treatment plant, swimming pool, sewage treatment plant and other projects were undertaken during the Congress regime.
Former Sanquelim MLA Pratap Gawas claimed that the city development project of Rs 14 crore was sanctioned during the Congress rule and it would include hot mixing of internal roads, illumination of SMC area, separate water pipeline and other such projects.
The members present also accused the BJP of using pressure tactics and misusing the power. “Even after such a high level manipulation, we are confident of winning at least seven seats,” said SMC election campaigning committee member Manikrao Kanekar.
