MARGAO: In a development that may leave the Congress red faced, Savio Coutinho, husband of Congress spokesperson Pratima Coutinho on Sunday shared the BJP platform at Navelim by giving a call to the people to back Narendra Sawaikar in the April 12 election.
Pratima when contacted tried to wriggle out from the huge embarrassment, by saying that Savio believes in his own political ideology and that her roots lie in the Congress.
Savio who contested the 2012 Assembly poll against former chief minister Digambar Kamat on the Trinamool Congress, surprised many when he shared the BJP dais at Navelim. In his address, he said the BJP government has launched many schemes during the last two years, adding that people would be ungrateful to the government if they do not support the Parrikar led government.
When the media later sought comment from Savio over his decision to share the BJP platform when wife Pratima is a Congress spokesman, he said that he has not high command, but believes only in “I” command.
Pratima later said she has nothing to do with Savio’s decision to address the people from the BJP platform. “Savio has his own political ideology. I am a firm supporter of the Congress party. My loyalty is with the party”, she said.
