While driving on Goan roads, one comes across plastic humps at several places. Speed humps are intended to reduce driver speeds while enhancing traffic flow and maintaining the safety of other road users and pedestrians. They are vertical obstacles used in traffic management that jolt the occupants of a vehicle moving too quickly over them. However, when one crosses a speed hump at high speed, it can lead to damage of the car suspensions. Worse still, while driving at a speed, the speed hump may cause severe traumatic spine injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.
It needs to also be noted that these speed humps which are made of plastic do not last for long and hence a part of it breaks up as seen in the photo. The authorities concerned need to have a relook as to whether such plastic speed humps are indeed necessary when one can have speed breakers instead.
