Restore Vasco's Kharewado beach

Restore Vasco's Kharewado beach
Published on

There was a time when the Kharewado beach in Vasco was a meeting point for residents of the port town.

However, now the entire stretch of the beach has become a dumping site for garbage which has turned, the once beautiful beach, into an eyesore.

Despite the local councillor carrying out beach cleanliness on a regular basis, it is observed that garbage is being dumped with impunity on the beach front. Pigs are seen loitering on the beach sand as seen in the photo.

After the Baina beach has been restored to its past glory, the government should now restore the Kharewado beach which is even used for open defecation by the migrants. The entire beach front could be cordoned off by putting up a fence with a gate for people to enter.

This needs to be done after a massive clean-up drive is carried out on the beach. Garbage bins need to be placed in the beach vicinity so that people from the locality dispose the garbage in a proper manner.

The government needs to include the Kharewado beach in its beach cleaning programme for which an agency is appointed.
