Shopping for fish at the Mapusa fish market is a dangerous and disgusting proposition because of how messy the space is. Entering the fish market, one is greeted by a horrible stench - a common factor across most of our wet markets, true - but here, the floor is slippery with a viscous mix of water, ice, blood and guts. Wholesalers who deliver or transport the fish to this market callously empty the contents of their fish crates at the entrance of the market, leaving sludge-like puddles of water which is then tracked by customers all across the market. Add to this the poor garbage management at the market and you have a very unpleasant shopping experience, which is unacceptable considering the number of citizens who frequent this market. I appeal to the Mapusa Municipal Council to look into this and ensure that cleanliness is maintained at a market where people purchase their food.
