There is a need to streamline KTC Panjim bus stand on urgent basis
Published on

Recently, the Director of Transport along with his staff and consumer forum GOACAN happened to visit the Kadamba Transport Corporation bus stand in Panjim.

The purpose may be to see the condition of the bus stand and its surroundings. However, the inspection carried out is appreciated by the citizens and the travellers, who visit to the city regular from other places.

As Panjim is a capital city of Goa, the state of bus stand has to be upto the mark. The present bus stand seems to be neglected by the concerned authorities, which has turned untidy. The Director of Transport took a round from the bus stand to Patto entrance road, where many vegetable sellers and tyre puncture repairers have the shops among others.

However, the Director should also take note of the haphazard parking of the KTC buses at the exit points of the bus stand. The road, where the buses enter the bus stand and then all the city and inter-city buses, which take route to come out of the bus stand, is narrow and many buses are parked on both the sides thus paralysing the smooth flow of traffic within the bus stand.

One can see that everyday there is a traffic jam inside the bus stand to get the buses out from the exit points. The drivers have to be called to move the buses parked so as to make way for city and inter-city buses.

Traffic Police are required to handle the situation in the morning when buses are held up for almost 15 minutes inside the bus stand due to parked buses on both sides of the road.

I request the concerned authority to have a better plan for the parking of vehicles and allow the smooth flow of buses from the KTC bus stand to outer main road of the bus stand and enforce strict direction to maintain smooth flow of traffic at the entrance of city, opposite the petrol pump, where the pillars of the flyover are built.
