Engage bouncers to tackle unruly tourists

In Goa one sees bouncers being used for purposes other than the reason the bouncer culture was introduced.

A bouncer is a security professional who helps keep nightclubs, bars, restaurants and other event venues safe. Their primary duty is to keep a watch on entrances and avoid unauthorized admission. They are responsible for dealing with aggressive behaviour or disobedience with rules.

They keep a check on the legal drinking age and refuse entry to underage persons in clubs and bars. In some cases, people may hire personal bouncers as a status symbol, rather than solely for security. However, in Goa it is observed that bouncers are hired for an entirely different purpose. Many-a-times they are hired to intimidate or attack rivals over property disputes or personal grievances. It has become an accepted means of settling scores. This is a troubling pattern emerging in Goa which reflects a breakdown in law and order and loss of public confidence in the police.

Bouncer-related violence has been on the rise in the State. Be that as it may, it is observed that tourists many a times engage in unruly behaviour and do not follow the law of the land.

They are not intimidated by the presence of police who, many-a-times, are mute spectators. There is a lot of friction between tourists and locals, especially along the coastal belt. It would be in the fitness of things for the tourism department to hire bouncers to tackle unruly tourists.

Public getting duped

yet no wiser

The public is getting duped again and again in the name of giving jobs here or abroad, lust for getting high rates for deposits, receiving fake items on line order and so on.

The recent case of extracting money in the name of giving Government jobs is very much in news and is not the first case of its kind. The Government jobs are most sought for as it is permanent with maximum perks and minimum work.

It is a known fact that jobs are available for a premium with cuts from top to bottom and the system allowed to continue as it suits many.

Even in the instant case none will volunteer to declare getting a job for cash. Action not taken so far on those suspected to be involved in the racket which cannot be run singly.

There are instances of many private companies vanishing subsequently with huge deposits collected from the public. The common outcome is if an accused is immediately arrested and the media carries news till the person gets bail and the issue is forgotten altogether.

It is noticed those involved go scot free and none of self-declared victims have ever been able to get back full or part of the money so given.

The victim does not pursue for fear of justifying the source of the amount paid/deposited. The rules are stringent now so there are no cases of financial companies cheating the public recently. Perhaps it is futile to hope the public gets wiser from past lessons and is ever ready to get duped.

Make the environment eco-friendly

This is to highlight the issue of air and noise pollution caused by fireworks during festivals like Diwali, Christmas and New Year.

While the festivities bring joy and excitement, the environmental consequences are severe and demand immediate attention.

The air quality deteriorates due to the release of smoke from fireworks, posing a serious threat to public health. People with breathing problems and those suffering from asthma are most vulnerable to it.

Fireworks also leave behind debris and chemical residues, contributing to soil and water pollution. This not only harms the ecosystem but also endangers the diverse flora and fauna in our surroundings.

Considering these issues, I would like to urge the authorities to consider implementing stricter regulations on the use of fireworks during festivals like Diwali, Christmas and New Year.

Encouraging alternative, eco-friendly celebrations will not only reduce the environmental impact but will also promote a healthier and safer environment for everyone.

Political influence in

every govt work is a norm

India is a democratic republic with a multi-party political system. Everyone who participates in the democratic process, directly or indirectly, may have allegiance with some political party.

Being a member of a political party cannot be a qualification or even an influential factor for anything to be allowed. When people are swayed by position and power, or money, it means that they lack character and integrity.

Political representatives manipulate the legal system through threats and political intimidation. Even political interference in transfers and posting of public servants results in politicization of public office, which in turn puts public efficiency and good administration to peril. But the individual narrates that the government is not interested in tackling real issues like unemployment or inflation. And the lack of commitment in the political class is driving real issues out of politics. The good people are purposely played down and attacked and hidden by the society that wants to dominate with bad or worthless people.

The governance has degenerated. The recent allegations on cash-for-job scams regarding government posts, many say, are virtually auctioned. All these have let down the people, their hopes and aspirations. Their belief in the government and clean administration lies shattered. Though political interference violates the rulebook, the practice is rampant.

Mourning in America

Bravo to Vivek Menezes, Nicole-Ann Lobo and Neil Sanzgiri for their inputs into the brilliant analysis (oHeraldo 10.11.24) of the recent US elections: Mourning in America.

They must be praised for not shying back from naming and shaming the Biden-Harris administration for its complicity in modern history's greatest genocide.

America didn’t die - as many put it - on November 5, 2024: it died 76 years ago when it shafted - along with Britain and Australia - an innocent indigenous people, the Palestinians, of their land, liberty and lives to compensate Jews for a monstrous crime perpetrated on another continent by Europeans.

America died each time in these 76 years of Israeli occupation-annexation of Palestine, it provided Israel with American dollars, guns and impunity for its massacres and genocides of Palestinians in order to accomplish the infamous Zionist land grab.

The players in these acts of land and home theft and mass terrorism - the Israeli settlers, the terrorist militias (the Irgun, the Stern Gang and Palmach) and the Israeli Occupation Force - all operated with the full assistance of a long line of US presidents and Democrat and Republican politicians.
