Hats off to ISRO for the resounding success

Three cheers to Team ISRO for scripting a phenomenal scientific achievement —the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon surface is a historic moment and a source of great pride to every Indian. The extraordinary feat holds potential significance for India’s aspirations of establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon.

Indeed, India has joined the elite moon-landing club along with Russia, China and the US No doubt, the successful accomplishment of Chandrayaan-3 mission will lead to new technological developments and scientific breakthroughs for ISRO and the country. Credit also goes to some remarkable Indian organizations such as L&T, Godrej Aerospace and BHEL, as they teamed up with ISRO to make this moon fantasy a reality.

Giant leap for India in space programme

This refers to the editorial ‘Over the Moon’ (O Heraldo August 25), the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 has drawn worldwide attention as India became the first nation to land a spacecraft near the largely unexplored lunar south pole.

This is an incredible feat considering the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which proved that it can come back from setbacks and failures, take on tough challenges and come out on top. With Chandrayaan-2 having failed in its mission four years ago, ISRO learnt the lessons of that failure and Chandrayaan-3 was built to be fail-safe for its mission on the moon.  Besides ISRO scientists, India should not forget the great scientist Vikram Sarabhai who initated the Space research programme.

Let people smile

Hum kissi se kam nahi, we don’t stand second to anyone. This has been proved by India. The successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon surface has made our country stand fourth among others who have the space technology and capabilities. But India stands first to land Vikram and Pragyan at the South Pole of the moon for further explorations. Hence the vision of late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to create ISRO to make India rank in space technology has been fulfilled and the mission of Dr Vikram Sarabhai is completed.

India is on the moon. Congratulations....

Congratulations! India has become the first nation in the world to land on the South Pole of the moon. The nation’s Chandrayaan 3 mission made a soft landing on the lunar surface of the moon. It was an incredibly challenging task because the lunar South Pole is home to the toughest terrains and low temperatures. In that region have not received sunlight for millions of years.

On August 23, 2023 at 6:09pm India has scripted history by demonstrating a soft landing on the moons South Pole. Scientists believe it hosts a vast of water ice in the shadowed craters. The Vikram lander will now perform scientific operations on the surface of the moon. After Chandrayaan 3 India’s next big mission is Aditya L1 expected to launch in September 2023.Aditya will be the first space based Indian mission to study the Sun. Great Achievement. Proud moment for all Indians and our scientists ISRO Team working hard for success.

Waste segregation will prevent fire at dumps

It is learnt that fire broke out in a shed at the Sonsoddo waste dump site on Thursday morning. The fire personnel doused the flames using fire tenders. It must be said that fire incidents have been reported at the legacy dump site at a disturbing frequency. Pollutants released due to low burning can cause a wide range of serious health effects, even at extremely low levels.

These can include reproductive impairment, developmental injuries and increased risk of diabetes. Other chemicals, such as benzene derivatives, are released by the burning of tyres at dumpsites. These are suspected human carcinogens which have been linked to leukemia in humans. It is learnt that methane gas generated by the waste caused the fire. Landfill methane results from the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste.

Tossing leftover food in the bin along with dry waste is the main reason methane is generated at garbage dump sites. Hence the first and most important step to prevent fires at waste dump sites is to segregate the garbage into dry and wet waste at the source.

French teens saved by lifeguards

Due to the unpredictable sea condition, especially during the ongoing monsoon season, Goa’s beaches usually remain closed with warning given by the concerned authorities. Once in Goa, and in the rage of enjoyment, the tourists usually get drunk and venture into the sea, thus endangering their lives. However, warnings are always given for the benefit of the general public and it should be obeyed by the tourists.

Kudos!! To the lifeguards Siddhesh, Rohit, Hiran and Nagesh, who rescued the lives of two French teens, aged 13 and 16, off Mandrem beach. Accordingly, it’s a great move by the lifeguards who keep a keen watch on the beaches across Goa.

Words make worlds

‘World’ is a word that is often used without any clarity. Dictionary gives many meanings for various uses depending on contexts. See a list; ‘world map’, ‘worldwide coverage’, known ‘all over world’, ‘world famous’ etc. For precise use, ‘world map’ is to be changed to ‘map of all continents and oceans of Earth’. ‘World wide’ is to be changed to international or global or ‘all over Earth’. ‘World famous’ is to be changed to ‘internationally famous’. What is the precise meaning of ‘world’? Does it point to a cultural group? World is the exact word for a cultural community or small nation with literatures of various types  and people of different habitats, riches, jobs, status etc.

Different words and terms together make terminologies; these together make different topics. Different topics together make various subjects; these subjects make literature, people and culture, making a world.

Pragg is a future world champion

Chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa  has every chance, and of course talent, to match, or even exceed, his mentor Viswanathan Anand.  All of 18, Praggnanandhaa or Pragg, stunned the chess world with his remarkable performance in the world cup by beating top ranked players.

He, ultimately, fell to that giant chess talent Magnus Carlsen but not before stretching the five time world champion to tie-breakers. Infact, Pragg is one player whom Carlsen respects a lot. Pragg had the better of Carlsen earlier in two rapid chess tourneys, and the champion knows the Indian is an exceptional talent.  Instead of exploiting the opponent’s mistake, Pragg’ss hunger to win on his own ability is so striking in his matches.

To win from a seemingly tough situation, against top players, is a rare trait of Pragg. Fearlessness is the key to success.
