In a significant move toward justice for the victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the case, was extradited to India from the United States on April 9. The 64-year-old, wanted for his alleged role in planning the attacks that claimed 166 lives, including six Americans, was handed over to Indian authorities on Wednesday.

Following the extradition, the US State Department reaffirmed its commitment to combating global terrorism in partnership with India.

"The United States extradited Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India to face justice for his role in planning the horrific 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks," said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce in a statement quoted by ANI. "These attacks shocked the world and led to the tragic loss of 166 lives."

Bruce emphasized that Washington has consistently supported New Delhi's efforts to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice. "The United States has long supported India's efforts to ensure accountability for these heinous crimes," she said. "As President Trump stated, the US and India will continue to work together to fight the global scourge of terrorism."

Rana's extradition marks a major step forward in the 26/11 investigation, nearly 16 years after the attacks that targeted key locations across Mumbai, including the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, CST railway station, and Nariman House.
