3 Patients Die After Brief Oxygen Pressure Drop in Jalandhar Civil Hospital; Inquiry Ordered

A sudden dip in oxygen pressure at the Trauma Ward of Jalandhar’s Civil Hospital on Sunday night has allegedly led to the deaths of three patients, sparking panic among hospital staff and prompting a formal inquiry by health authorities.

The incident occurred around 8 PM, reportedly due to a technical fault during the oxygen supply changeover process. Though the disruption was brief, it is suspected to have contributed to the deaths of three critically ill patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh rushed to the hospital soon after the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.

“These patients were already in a critical condition,” Singh said, addressing the media. “There was a brief drop in oxygen pressure—possibly for one or two minutes—but the supply was restored quickly. The deaths occurred within a span of 10 to 15 minutes, not all at once.”

Singh further clarified the conditions of the deceased: one patient suffered from lung consolidation, another had multiple organ failure, and the third was a drug addict—all factors that may have compounded the effect of the brief oxygen disruption.

Hospital authorities have initiated a probe into the incident, and the administration has been directed to review all technical and emergency protocols related to oxygen supply systems to prevent such occurrences in the future.
