Actor Vijay Launches Strong Critique Against DMK and BJP in First General Council Meeting of TVK

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), held the party's first general council meeting on Friday, launching a sharp attack on the ruling governments of Tamil Nadu and the Centre—the DMK and the BJP. He accused both parties of being in a tactical alliance and labeled them as "fascists."

Vijay’s remarks focused on the political dynamics between the DMK and the BJP, saying, “For votes, you (DMK) have an alliance with the Congress, and for looting, you have a clandestine alliance with the BJP.” He went on to call the BJP a "secret owner" of the DMK, reflecting his strong disapproval of the current political arrangements.

In his speech, Vijay criticized several policies of the central government, including the delimitation exercise based on population, the imposition of Hindi, and the devolution of central funds. He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for a “one nation, one election” system, warning that Tamil Nadu, a state known for its political strength, must be handled with care. “PM sir, we understand your plans when you start speaking about one nation, one election. Handle Tamil Nadu carefully, sir. Because Tamil Nadu is a state which has shown its power many times,” he cautioned.

Vijay also urged the Union government to withdraw the controversial Waqf Bill, a resolution on which was passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly just the day before.

Since launching TVK in 2024 with the intention of contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay has named the DMK as his political adversary and the BJP as his ideological enemy. In his latest comments, he declared, “Tamil Nadu would witness a different election. The contest is solely between two parties—the TVK and the DMK.”

Vijay also accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin of failing to govern effectively, stating, “A fascist regime is ruling Tamil Nadu, no less than the central government whom they call fascist.” He further criticized Stalin for the state's deteriorating law and order, stating, “Chief minister of a monarchy, if you had governed properly, our women would have been safe.”

The meeting concluded with the passing of 17 resolutions outlining TVK’s stance on various political and social issues, solidifying the party's position as a strong challenger to the current administration in Tamil Nadu.
