Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, arrived in New Delhi on an unannounced visit just hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, airstrikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The sudden visit came amid growing regional tension and international concern.

On Thursday, 8 May, Al-Jubeir held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The focus of the meeting was de-escalation between India and Pakistan following the strikes. Jaishankar later described the talks as “good” and said he shared “India’s perspectives on firmly countering terrorism.”

The Saudi minister’s visit coincided with that of Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who arrived in Delhi for pre-scheduled diplomatic talks. The presence of top diplomats from key Gulf nations underscores the significance of recent developments and efforts to stabilise the region.

Meanwhile, Indian officials have been actively briefing global partners about the airstrikes, reiterating that the operation was strictly aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure. They emphasised India’s commitment to avoiding escalation, while also making clear that further provocation would be met with a firm response.
