Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon (May 12, 2025) as Air India flight AI 171, en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after takeoff near the Meghaninagar area, close to the Ahmedabad airport. Gujarat police confirmed the incident and said emergency services are working at full capacity.

The aircraft was reportedly carrying 242 passengers when it went down in a densely populated locality, raising fears of significant casualties. Witnesses said the plane caught fire moments after crashing, prompting local residents to rush to the scene to assist in rescue operations.

Fire teams were quickly deployed to control the blaze, and several injured passengers are being transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Fire officer Jayesh Khadia confirmed that firefighting and rescue efforts are ongoing.
