Four members of a Meitei insurgent group that had signed a ceasefire agreement with the Centre and Manipur government in November 2023 were injured in an attack by 15-20 suspected members of the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group, the police reported on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the suspected AT members arrived at the house of United National Liberation Front (Pambei) functionary Irengbam Nandakumar Singh, also known as Tonsana, 56. A fight broke out, resulting in four UNLF (P) members sustaining blunt injuries, not gunshot wounds.
Security forces promptly responded, detaining the injured cadres and transporting them to the hospital, where they are reported to be stable. Additionally, the forces raided the premises of the AT Unit-17 in Imphal East district, recovering evidence including approximately 15 grams of suspected heroin and an INSAS assault rifle bayonet.
