Ashutosh Sharma stole the spotlight with a match-winning performance in his debut for Delhi Capitals, powering them to a remarkable victory against Lucknow Super Giants in their season opener. His performance has sparked a wave of excitement, with many believing this season will solidify his reputation as a top player, following his impressive stint with Punjab Kings last year.
Former India cricketer and Sharma’s childhood coach, Amar Khurasiya, has suggested that Delhi Capitals should promote Ashutosh higher up the batting order, citing his natural ability to dominate and absorb pressure. Khurasiya emphasized that Ashutosh’s resilience has always stood out, not just in the IPL but across various formats and life situations. He further highlighted that for Delhi to clinch their maiden title, the franchise should consider opening the innings with Ashutosh, particularly during the Powerplay.
“He is the most difficult player to handle and stop in the Powerplay. Axar should try him at the top. He is a nightmare for bowlers,” Khurasiya said, urging Delhi Capitals to utilize Ashutosh’s explosive skills early in the innings.
Khurasiya also praised Ashutosh’s batting technique, noting his ability to execute a range of shots, including hooks, pulls, and cuts against fast bowlers clocking 140 kmph. “He has all the shots in the book and has innovated many others. He’s a complete package,” Khurasiya added.
Given his consistent performances and versatile batting, there is growing support for Ashutosh to be considered for a spot in the national T20 team, with many believing he could be a valuable asset at the international level.
