Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 project on Sunday. This new line stretches from RV Road in South Bengaluru to Bommasandra in the east.
The Bengaluru Metro is operated and maintained by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka.
The Phase-2 corridor covers over 19 km with 16 stations and was built at a cost of approximately ₹7,160 crore. Along with the inauguration, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project.
Earlier today, PM Modi flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station in Bengaluru.
Services on the Yellow Line will begin from Monday. The initial three trains will be driverless and run at intervals of 25 minutes, with frequency expected to increase over time. Trains will operate daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, serving thousands of commuters. Fare prices will align with existing Bengaluru Metro rates, ranging from ₹10 to ₹90 for a one-way ticket.
The Yellow Line will boost metro connectivity in Bengaluru, expanding the network to over 96 km. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion on key routes such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.
Key stations on the Yellow Line include RV Road (Interchange), Jayadeva (Interchange), Central Silk Board (Interchange), Electronics City, Infosys Foundation, Huskuru Road, and Delta Electronics Bommasandra.
On the inauguration day, PM Modi will travel by helicopter and road to KSR Bengaluru railway station to flag off the Vande Bharat Express trains. He will then proceed to RV Road (Ragigudda) metro station to inaugurate the Yellow Line and take a metro ride to Electronics City station between 11:45 am and 12:50 pm.
