Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized India’s robust growth trajectory despite global disruptions, tariffs, and H-1B visa concerns. Speaking at the UP International Trade Show (UPITS-2025) in Greater Noida, Modi said, “Bharat jaise desh ko kisi par nirbhar rehna, ab manzoor nahi hai… India’s growth is attractive even amid uncertainties.”
Highlighting the government’s focus on self-reliance, the PM reiterated the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and called for increased investment in research, innovation, and domestic manufacturing. He stressed that every product that can be made in India should be produced locally.
Modi also noted structural reforms in the indirect tax regime, particularly GST 2.0, which aim to reduce tax burdens and encourage economic efficiency. Income tax exemptions for individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh were also highlighted as measures to boost savings.
The Prime Minister pointed to India’s growing defence sector, mentioning the upcoming production of AK-203 rifles at a new Uttar Pradesh factory in collaboration with Russia.
Addressing foreign investment, Modi invited international investors to explore India’s expanding market, asserting that despite tariffs imposed by the US and heightened geopolitical tensions, India remains an attractive destination. He responded to Trump’s H-1B fee hike and US tariffs on Russian oil purchases, calling them “unjustified” while noting India’s resilience in exports.
