A blast inside a mosque in Beed district, Maharashtra, in the early hours of Sunday has led to rising tensions in the area. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns, alleging that the accused were confident they would be hailed as "heroes" for the attack.
In a post on X, Owaisi identified the suspects as Vijay Gavhane and Shriram Sagde, claiming that Gavhane had even posted a video of himself holding gelatin sticks prior to the attack. The explosion occurred at 2:30 AM on March 29 at the Ardha Masla village mosque in Georai tehsil. Although no injuries were reported, the blast caused significant damage to the interior of the mosque, shaking the local Muslim community.
Local police confirmed the arrests of Vijay Gavhane (22) and Sriram Sagde (24), both from the village, and stated that a case has been registered against them. Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat assured that stern action would be taken and urged the public not to spread rumors, stressing the importance of maintaining peace.
Officials revealed that one of the accused had filmed a reel with explosives and a cigarette before placing the gelatin sticks inside the mosque. Gavhane, who works in well digging, may have acquired the gelatin sticks from a licensed seller, as such materials are commonly used for controlled explosions in rural areas for well, quarry, or mining purposes.
In response to the incident, the police have heightened security in the village to prevent further unrest, and officials are investigating the matter closely. The village head alerted authorities around 4 AM, prompting an immediate response from the Talawada police.
