Bomb Scare in Bengaluru: 40 Schools Targeted by Threat Emails, Investigation Underway
Published on

In a deeply unsettling incident, 40 private schools across Bengaluru received bomb threat emails on Friday, 18 July, triggering widespread panic and a massive emergency response. The threatening messages, sent from the address roadkill333@atomicmail.io, claimed that explosives—specifically Trinitrotoluene (TNT)—had been planted in classrooms, throwing several neighborhoods into chaos.

Police forces, bomb disposal units, and dog squads rushed to the affected schools. Immediate evacuations were carried out to ensure the safety of students and staff, followed by extensive searches on each campus. Thankfully, no explosives were found by late evening.

Disturbing Suicide Note Accompanies Threat, Blames Mental Health Treatment

The contents of the email have shocked authorities and recipients alike—not only for the bomb threat, but for its disturbing tone. The message included an emotionally charged, suicide-themed manifesto filled with rage against psychiatry and society. “I will erase every last one of you from this world. Not a single soul will survive. I will gladly laugh when I will watch the news,” it read, promising mass violence and ending with a declaration of the sender’s intent to take their own life after the attack made headlines.

The sender lashed out at psychiatric treatment, blaming medication for physical and emotional suffering: “Psychiatrists never tell you that those meds ruin your organs or that they cause disgusting weight gain… I am living proof they don’t help.”

Several prominent schools in areas like RR Nagar and Kengeri were among the targets, leading to chaos as terrified parents rushed to retrieve their children. The psychological toll was heavy, even as security forces quickly assessed the threats as likely hoaxes—something Bengaluru has sadly experienced before. In December 2023, over 15 private schools received similar bomb threats that were later declared false alarms.

Despite the familiarity, each new threat reignites fear and disruption. Bengaluru Police have launched a full-fledged cyber investigation to trace the email's origin, determine the sender's identity and mental state, and prevent future such incidents. Authorities have urged the public to stay calm, promising heightened vigilance while ensuring student safety remains a top priority.
