Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Saturday, August 2, where he unveiled development projects worth approximately INR 2,200 crore. Addressing a public gathering, he also took aim at the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, accusing them of spreading misinformation and misleading the public, particularly farmers.
During his speech, the Prime Minister launched the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, reaffirming his government's commitment to agricultural welfare.
“Our government is working tirelessly for the welfare of farmers. The earlier governments did not even fulfil one scheme they had promised. BJP government delivers what it promises. PM Kisan Samman Nidhi has become an example of the strong will and intentions of the government,” he said.
According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), a total of ₹3.69 lakh crore had been transferred to farmers’ accounts through 19 instalments since the scheme’s inception in 2019. With the 20th instalment, the total amount disbursed has now crossed ₹3.75 lakh crore. PM Modi noted that farmers in Kashi alone have received over ₹900 crore under the scheme.
He also criticized the opposition, stating,
“The anti-development governments like SP and Congress would spread rumours and mislead people in all ways possible... It is unfortunate that a hopeless opposition is clinging to false hopes. All they can do is lie to the farmers and mislead them.”
